Consumer Awareness Increase in Students
A recent report by the Independent Adjudicator’s Office has revealed a 33% increase in complaints by students. Rob Behrens, head of the adjudicator's office, said the rise reflected a more "consumerist" attitude among students.
With the introduction of higher tuition fees from September 2012, competition for jobs will heighten. The student who wants to get ahead will need all the help they can get. Mr Behrens said that the increase in tuition fees was also the main reason for the sharp rise of complaints.
This comes with 31% of parents from relatively well off households complaining courses are too expensive. Parents are also claiming that university now fails to give graduates the same start in life that it used to.
Mr Behrens also said that a tough graduate job market had made students more aware of the importance of university. “There has been a lot of policy discussion about fees in the past year and its concentrated students' minds into thinking about the merits of what they're getting,” said Behrens.
Parents and Students are expecting more from universities with the rise in tuition fees, with many parents advising their children to start early in the world of work through apprenticeships or internships.
At Graduate Coach many of those who come to us crying out “help me find a job” are woefully unprepared for the rigours of the job market and have hopelessly inadequate CVs. Usually they come to us to do a rescue job and Graduate Coach helps to change that by ensuring that they are already well prepared by the time they are ready to leave university and begin their careers.
Universities are not generating the jobs for their leavers, leaving many graduates unemployed 6 months after graduating. The Graduate Coaching Programme brings together the experience, skills and knowledge of recruitment experts, gathered over decades of helping job-seekers find meaningful employment, to help young people get their careers off the ground in todays very challenging and uncertain jobs market.
